What Is a Sinus Lift?
A sinus lift (sometimes called a sinus augmentation) is a necessary step for some patients whose ultimate goal is to have dental implants put in to replace missing upper back teeth. In some cases, when people lose these teeth, the sinus cavity expands to take up the space where the tooth roots were previously located. This weakens the surrounding bone and tissue, leaving them unable to support dental implants. ACE Dental of Cove is excited to offer sinus lifts, allowing patients to prepare to replace missing teeth and regain their natural look and function.
"Amazing dentistry. Every employee was not only professional but friendly and kind as well. Dr. Kim and his assistant Zinnia in particular were exceptional, easing the nervousness I feel about dentists from bad childhood visits. They'll absolutely be my go to for dentistry work for as long as I'm in the cove area."- D.M. / Google / Sep 10, 2021

"I called Friday morning to ask for an appointment for a tooth extraction and I was shocked to be offered a same day appointment and the person I spoke to was INCREDIBLY nice. I read that they did payment plans and they had great reviews so I figured, well I’m desperate so I’ll give it a try. The clinic was only a short drive for me and when I got there I didn’t know what to expect. The lobby was nice and the staff were welcoming. The online registration was easy and when I got lead back to meet the dentist I was really appreciative of how incredibly kind and sweet she was. I explained to her my history and I was treated with the utmost respect and understanding. I didn’t feel judged at all. For patients without insurance in the aftermath of a pandemic and job losses and insurance cancellations; it meant the world to me to not feel shamed. This was the absolute best experience I’ve ever had and I will be back and will definitely highly recommend them. Thank you Ace for the compassion!!"- A.M. / Google / Aug 21, 2021
"I had tooth pain after biting down on something hard. It last for days. I called for an appt. They were able to get me in the same day. I got xrays and a cleaning by the DDS. No cavity and pain resolved after cleaning. Walked away 90 minutes later with a $20 fee for a fluoride treatment. Happy day & great customer service!!"- T.N. / Google / Aug 20, 2021
"Took great care of me and awesome family setting."- R.H. / Google / Aug 14, 2021
Is a Sinus Lift Right for You?
If you are missing your upper molars or premolars, you may benefit from a sinus lift surgery. If the sinus cavities have grown too large, if the bottom of the sinus cavity is too close to where the implant(s) will be placed, or if you lack the quality bone structure in the upper jaw, you may be a good candidate for a sinus lift. During your consultation, we will use 3-dimensional cone beam imaging technology to evaluate the location of your sinus cavities and the condition of your upper jawbone, which will allow us to determine if a sinus lift surgery is appropriate for you.
What to Expect With A Sinus Lift
Before the sinus lift surgery begins, you will be given a local anesthetic to numb the roof of your mouth. Nitrous oxide sedation may also be used if you have dental anxieties to help you feel more relaxed. When you are ready to begin, one of our experienced dentists will make an incision in the soft tissue near the back of your mouth to reveal the jawbone and allow access to the sinus cavities. The sinus floor will be gently raised, then a bone graft will be added to build the strength of the jawbone and prevent the sinus cavity from returning to its previous position. Finally, the incision will be closed with sutures, and you will be given time to heal completely before dental implants are placed.
Recovery Following Sinus Augmentation
After your sinus lift procedure is complete, our dentist may prescribe pain medication to make your recovery more comfortable. We will give you specific instructions on how to best care for your mouth while you recover. Around 1 – 2 weeks after your surgery, you will need to attend a follow-up visit at ACE Dental of Cove to evaluate the progress of your healing and remove the sutures. While this procedure may be necessary to make you eligible for a dental implant, the bone graft will take several months to heal so that an implant can be properly placed. While you’re waiting to finish the healing process, it is important to maintain your dental health with daily brushing and flossing and routine dental cleanings.
Insurance Coverage for Sinus Lifts
Your sinus lift procedure may or may not be covered by your dental insurance, depending on your personal dental coverage. A member of our insurance team will contact your insurance provider to find out about your plan and calculate any out-of-pocket costs. ACE Dental of Cove accepts many convenient payment methods, and we can help you to apply for low-interest medical financing to make your dental care more affordable.
Find Implant Success with Sinus Augmentation
Dental implants that look and function like real teeth are a wonderful option if you have missing teeth, but encroaching sinus cavities may cause unwanted bone loss. To make you a better candidate for successful dental implants, sinus lift surgery may be needed to ensure the necessary support and space for a dental implant. If you’re thinking about getting dental implants to replace your back upper teeth, schedule a consultation at ACE Dental of Cove to find out if you might need a sinus lift before your implants are placed.
