What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?
Dental cavities are a common problem that can develop when bacteria attack your tooth enamel. Previously, dental cavities could only be filled with amalgam material, a combination of metals, such as silver or mercury. At ACE Dental of Cove in Copperas Cove, TX, our dentists can also offer tooth-colored fillings made from a composite resin to fill and protect cavities in your teeth. If you would like, our dentists can take out old metal fillings and replace them with composite resin fillings for a more reliable, attractive cavity treatment.
"Amazing dentistry. Every employee was not only professional but friendly and kind as well. Dr. Kim and his assistant Zinnia in particular were exceptional, easing the nervousness I feel about dentists from bad childhood visits. They'll absolutely be my go to for dentistry work for as long as I'm in the cove area."- D.M. / Google / Sep 10, 2021

"I called Friday morning to ask for an appointment for a tooth extraction and I was shocked to be offered a same day appointment and the person I spoke to was INCREDIBLY nice. I read that they did payment plans and they had great reviews so I figured, well I’m desperate so I’ll give it a try. The clinic was only a short drive for me and when I got there I didn’t know what to expect. The lobby was nice and the staff were welcoming. The online registration was easy and when I got lead back to meet the dentist I was really appreciative of how incredibly kind and sweet she was. I explained to her my history and I was treated with the utmost respect and understanding. I didn’t feel judged at all. For patients without insurance in the aftermath of a pandemic and job losses and insurance cancellations; it meant the world to me to not feel shamed. This was the absolute best experience I’ve ever had and I will be back and will definitely highly recommend them. Thank you Ace for the compassion!!"- A.M. / Google / Aug 21, 2021
"I had tooth pain after biting down on something hard. It last for days. I called for an appt. They were able to get me in the same day. I got xrays and a cleaning by the DDS. No cavity and pain resolved after cleaning. Walked away 90 minutes later with a $20 fee for a fluoride treatment. Happy day & great customer service!!"- T.N. / Google / Aug 20, 2021
"Took great care of me and awesome family setting."- R.H. / Google / Aug 14, 2021
Should I Get a Tooth-Colored Filling?
Tooth-colored fillings isolate the area of tooth decay after it's been cleaned by one of our dental professionals. Composite resin is a versatile material that can be used to address other problems with your teeth, including chips or wear on the enamel by teeth grinding (bruxism). Since the composite resin is tinted to match your natural teeth, fillings may be placed on both the back and front teeth for an undetectable result. If you have amalgam fillings, talk to one of our dentists about having them taken out and replaced with tooth-colored fillings.
What To Expect With Tooth-Colored Fillings
Receiving a tooth-colored filling at ACE Dental of Cove is generally a simple treatment. The area surrounding the cavity will be numbed before the procedure begins. Nitrous oxide sedation can be considered for any fears or dental anxieties to help keep you relaxed. As soon as you are prepared, the infected area is removed using a unique dental drill that a dental professional will select based on where the cavity is located and the level of decay present. After the enamel is treated and the tooth is disinfected, the cavity will be filled with the composite material and set. Our dentists will smooth the filling material so it feels comfortable and matches your natural teeth.
Recovery After a Tooth-Colored Filling
You will be able to get back to your normal day once your filling is done, but you may have a sensitivity to cold and hot temperatures for a few days. You can take nonprescription pain medication to treat discomfort, but you shouldn't have any major problems. If after a few days the filling feels too high or uneven, please contact our office. Your filling should be kept clean with routine home oral care that includes daily flossing and brushing. At future dental exams, a member of our dental team will assess your filling to decide if it needs to be repaired or replaced.
Insurance Coverage For Tooth-Colored Fillings
Composite resin fillings are a common treatment for dental cavities that are typically covered, at least in part, by dental insurance. A member of our team will contact your dental insurance company to determine your exact coverage before calculating any potential out-of-pocket costs. If you do not have insurance, a member of our experienced dental team can talk with you about the payment methods we accept, as well as medical financing options.
Cavities in the teeth may start out as a common problem, but it's crucial to have them addressed before they become a bigger issue. At ACE Dental of Cove in Copperas Cove, TX, cavities may be treated with composite resin fillings. Our dentists make sure to match the shade of your teeth so you can have a seamless, healthy smile. If you think you or your child have tooth decay, contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our knowledgeable general dentists.
